Three NAR Contributors Win PEN Center USA Awards!

I’m excited that three recent North American Review contributors have won 2013 PEN Center USA awards.

Amanda Auchter won in the poetry category for her book The Wishing Tomb (Perugia Press). Her poem “Dragonfly on Blue Agave” was a finalist for the 2005 James Hearst Poetry Prize and appeared in the March-April 2006 issue of the NAR; more recently her poem “The City That Care Forgot,” which is included in The Wishing Tomb, appears in the Summer 2012 issue. twt-final-cover

Joy Harjo won in the category of creative nonfiction for her memoir Crazy Brave. Her poem “Mother Field” appears in the November-December 2005 issue of the NAR.9780393073461_custom-35b6f3290986e5938d30944c7521242083ad4d04-s6-c30

Dan O’Brien won in the category of drama for his play The Body of an American. Dan has had two poems appear in the NAR recently. “The War Reporter Paul Watson Hears the Voice” was a finalist for the 2011 James Hearst Poetry Prize and appeared in the Spring 2012 issue of the NAR, and “The War Reporter Paul Watson Tells His Son a Story” appears in the Fall 2012 issue. (I’m currently writing a review of Dan’s new book of poems War Reporter, which I highly recommend.)TBoaA-670
